What does a home entry system actually mean in everyday use?
In practice, it means replacing a bulky set of keys with a smarter, more controlled way to enter your property. The most common setup combines a key fob reader, PIN keypad or mobile access. These systems are often paired with video intercoms, so you can not only hear who is at the gate, but also see them clearly in HD.
What is the difference between a video intercom and an entry system?
A video intercom mainly handles audio and video communication at the entrance. An entry system is the wider solution that controls the actual unlocking of a gate, entrance door or garage access point. In our installations, we often combine both into one seamless setup, so a single Jablotron key fob can unlock the gate and also disarm the alarm inside the house.
Can I have key fob access, a PIN keypad and a video intercom at the same gate?
Yes — and for a family home, that is often the most practical solution. Visitors ring via the video intercom, family members enter with a key fob, and the PIN works as a backup if someone forgets their fob. If you are building a new home, we strongly recommend early pre-wiring for cameras and alarm systems, so everything is ready behind the facade from the start.
Is an entry system really worth it for a family home, or is it just a luxury?
For most homeowners, it is much more about convenience and peace of mind than luxury. Children do not need to carry keys they can easily lose, and you can let in a courier directly from your phone — even while you are away. In our residential services, entry systems are one of the foundations of a modern, secure and comfortable home.
Can the system be installed in an existing house without major wall chasing or damage?
Very often, yes. We can reuse existing conduit from older doorbells or choose wireless elements where appropriate. If you are already planning a larger electrical renovation, that is the ideal moment to add new wiring routes for maximum reliability and a cleaner final result.
What happens if I lose a key fob or need to revoke someone's access?
That is one of the biggest advantages over traditional keys. A lost key fob can simply be deleted from the system and replaced with a new one. No lock cylinder changes, no costly key replacement. This is also why we recommend digital access management as part of electrical installation and inspection planning — it is safer and far more flexible than physical key copies.
Can the system control only the gate, or also doors and driveway gates?
Depending on the design, it can control the pedestrian gate, entrance door and driveway gate as well. For new builds, we often include this already in the planning stage for new-build electrical installation, so everything from the front gate to the garage works together through one fob or mobile app.
Does everything have to run through the internet and a mobile app?
Not at all. Key fob access and the indoor monitor can work locally without internet. An online connection is only needed for mobile notifications and remote unlocking. To make that reliable at the entrance, we also provide support for internet and Wi-Fi coverage where it matters most.
Can the entry system be expanded later?
Yes. Our systems are modular, so you can start with a simple reader at the gate and add a video intercom or integration with camera systems later on. We always design with future upgrades in mind, not dead ends.
How much does a home entry system cost?
The final cost depends on the number of entry points and the technology you choose. For new-build homes, we usually recommend including the entry system in a broader request that also covers final inspection for occupancy approval, which helps save both technician time and travel costs.
Do you also modernize older systems?
Yes. We regularly upgrade old buzzers and basic entry phones to modern digital access systems with key fobs and smarter control. Before installation, we assess the condition of the existing wiring and, if needed, carry out electrical inspections to make sure the new locking system works safely and reliably.
